More digital play. These are things that do not exist but are created in 3D rendering software (Modo, Blender). We used software like this to design buldings and manufacturing plants.

I played around with a tool that created guilloches. Guilloches were mechanical machines that created patterns on money, stock certificates as a security approach because nobody could manually recreate them.

I became interested in writing software to generate patterns. Click to enlarge.

That interest in patterns evolved into whatever one would call this ...

I wrote a graphics primitive library allowing me to manipulate colors and shapes. and then twist and turn them. The images in the lowermost right was an experiment in screening techniques similar to what used to be used in newspapers.

My original images are actually vector images (PDFs), meaning they can be scaled without a loss of resolution - so think as large as a billboard! Of course these you are viewing are bitmaps.

Lastly, I got into fish ...

Let me drop some terminology ... these are parametrically generated. That just means I broke the fish into components like caudal fin, anal fin, dorsal fin, etc. And each fin could be of several types and divisions. Anyway, these too are vector images (PDF) that can be scaled and used at any physical size. And my program eventually generated random combinations, meaning I could turn it loose to randomly generate these fish - want 500, okay, no problem. Want five thousand, give it a few hours but no problem.
