I have hundreds of bird photos from those last years in Nebraska - too many to show.

But this was my favorite seldom seen sight.

One day I noticed that the humming birds were agitated by something in the bush below the hummingbird feeder. The preying mantis will feed on hummingbirds in cases of extreme hunger. So they are a natural enemy of the hummingbirds. From what I read, the preying mantis is a very powerful insect capable of dragging, holding and killing a hummingbird.
